This mare…she is one of my longest relationships.  She is my heart horse. I first saw her passage across a field at a race training facility.  She tossed her head and looked at me as if to say “You think you’re good enough for this?” And that was it…I knew I wasn’t, but I was smitten.  Oct 3, 2003, she became mine.  From there on, she became my first OTTB retraining project. She had a bag full of tricks and evasions, but they all made me a better rider and trainer.   And all of those things I learned in the process of teaching her gave me the skills to help over a dozen other horses find post-racing careers.
